Sheldon looked from his father to the screen. The high-definition fiction was comforting. It had clean narrative arcs. The real world—with its soft, unfixable focus—was the true BDrip. Uncompressed, unforgiving, and filled with details you couldn't unsee.
“Dad? You’re home early. The compression artifacts on your face suggest fatigue.”
“Dad,” Sheldon said softly, sitting down at the kitchen table. “The episode ends with a cliffhanger. But I think… I’d rather know how this scene ends first.”
Sheldon felt a cold prickle, the same sensation as when his hard drive began to fail. “Is this about the electricity bill? Because I optimized the—“
But then reality intruded.
“No.” George finally looked at him. “Your mom doesn’t know yet. But the coaching job at Rice University called back.”
