The night before Sara’s execution, Michael puts the plan in motion. He short-circuits a generator, causing a blackout. Guards scramble. He crawls through a series of steam tunnels, avoiding patrols and razor wire. Meanwhile, Lincoln creates a diversion outside: a fake truck crash near the prison wall. Sara, in her cell, hears three knocks on the floor — Michael’s signal. She moves her bunk and finds a loose grate. Michael reaches up from below. Their hands meet.
As they flee, Michael starts bleeding from the nose — a sign of the brain tumor that was supposedly removed earlier. He hides it from Sara.
