Kaelen felt it. A cold pressure behind his eyes. His vision began to pixelate. The edges of the Vault blurred into chunky squares. He looked down at his hands—they were dissolving into blocks of color. Red, beige, shadow.

“Welcome to Task,” the man said, but his mouth didn’t match the words. His jaw unhinged slightly, like a poorly rigged puppet. “Your next assignment… is to forget.” Kaelen felt it
The man in the suit smiled. “The task is simple. You have 240 vertical lines of resolution. And in those lines, I have hidden a command. One that rewrites the Archivist’s own memory.” The edges of the Vault blurred into chunky squares
The video skipped. A chunk of data vanished in a spray of green and purple blocks. When it resumed, the man in the grey suit was leaning closer to the camera. His eyes weren’t squares anymore. They were voids—perfect, deep black circles that seemed to suck the light out of the room.
