Despite his profound learning, he lived for decades in ascetic solitude, wandering the ruins of Baghdad until his heart was polished by divine light. His magnum opus, Sirr al-Asrar (The Secret of Secrets), laid out a roadmap for the seeker: from repentance ( tawbah ) to trust in God ( tawakkul ) to ultimate gnosis ( ma‘rifah ).
