Hemmings didn’t answer right away. Instead, he reached past Leo and clicked on the screen. Jax was still crouched in the warden’s office, keycard in hand, the laser grid blinking behind him.
Leo hesitated, then moved the mouse. He clicked on the grate. The screen shimmered, and suddenly Jax was crawling through a dark pipe, water dripping in pixelated rivulets. A message appeared: Hidden passage discovered.
“C’mon, Jax,” Leo whispered, clicking to make his pixelated convict slip out of Cell Block D. prison escape game unblocked
He played through the game again. And this time, he didn’t run for the fence.
Leo exhaled.
“I’ve never made it past the second checkpoint,” Leo admitted.
Jax stood at the main gate, surrounded by dozens of other prisoners. The gate creaked open. They walked out together into a sunrise made of orange and gold pixels. Hemmings didn’t answer right away
Hemmings nodded slowly. Then he did something unexpected. He pulled up a chair, sat down, and said, “Click on the drain grate. Not the door.”
