Silence returned to the alley, save for the dripping of blood from Joryu’s knuckles.
The Sotenbori river glittered like a knife's edge under the neon glow. Joryu stood on the bridge, a ghost in a cheap gray suit, watching the reflection of the Grand cabaret flicker in the black water. He had become good at this: erasing himself. No warmth. No connections. Just a fist and a mission.
Joryu stood up. He looked at his own reflection in the dark window of a closed pachinko parlor. For a second, he thought he saw a crack running across his own masked face—a hairline fracture in the ghost.
