At 3:59 AM, the Hangouts window flickered.
He clicked the old Hangouts window.
"Are you real?"
Her typing bubble had appeared. It danced for seven minutes. Three dots. Pause. Three dots. Then nothing. The bubble vanished, and she never typed again.
Arjun froze, his coffee cup halfway to his lips. He leaned in, squinting at the cracked screen. The gray ellipsis pulsed. Once. Twice. Three times. hangouts desktop
Then a message appeared.
He'd replied: "The big ones with the extra tamarind?" At 3:59 AM, the Hangouts window flickered
Arjun's heart stopped. He looked around the dark room. His phone was dark. His modern laptop was closed. The only active connection to the outside world was this zombie app.
