The game simply refuses to recognize controller input properly. In my case, using an Xbox Wireless Controller (Series X) via Bluetooth and USB, Far Cry 4 showed no response whatsoever. The menus stayed locked to mouse/keyboard prompts. The controller worked perfectly in Steam Big Picture, other Ubisoft titles like Watch Dogs 2 , and Windows Game Controller settings – but Far Cry 4 acted like it didn’t exist.

I picked up Far Cry 4 expecting the same wild, chaotic fun I remembered from Far Cry 3 , but instead, I spent my first two hours fighting with my controller instead of Pagan Min’s army. If you’re on PC and prefer using an Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation, or even a third-party controller, be warned: Far Cry 4 has notorious, inconsistent, and often game-breaking controller detection problems.

Play Far Cry 5 or Far Cry Primal instead – both have much better controller support on PC. Or play Far Cry 4 on console if you have the option. On PC, this is a broken promise.
