Chkn Extractor -

“Extraction complete,” chirped the machine’s pleasant, feminine voice. “Chicken essence: 99.8% pure. Residual biomass: reclassified as Mammalia ambiguus .”

She put Clucky Four in the chamber. She pressed the button. The machine groaned, louder than before, and the lights in the lab flickered. The golden vial filled not with liquid, but with a gas that glowed and whispered.

Inside the chamber, Clucky Four did not move. It simply dissolved into a puddle of iridescent slime, which then crawled up the glass and spelled out a single word: chkn extractor

From inside, something stepped out. It wore Clucky One’s feathers like a coat. It had Elara’s face, but the eyes were sideways, like a bird’s. It did not cluck. It smiled.

Clucky Two went in next. Same red feathers, same stupid sideways glance. The machine hummed, rattled, and produced a second golden vial. Inside the chamber, Clucky Two did not mew. It unfurled a long, segmented limb and pressed it against the glass. Its skin was smooth, wet, and the color of a deep bruise. Where its beak had been, there was now a circular, toothless mouth that pulsed gently. She pressed the button

The second vial went to a philosopher who wanted to know what Gallus gallus domesticus meant without the bird. He drank it and spent three weeks sitting in a nesting box, refusing to speak.

And somewhere, in a golden vial on a shelf, the pure, distilled essence of a chicken thought to itself: Finally. Inside the chamber, Clucky Four did not move

Clucky Three tried to escape. It grew four extra eyes before the extraction was even finished, each one swiveling independently to track her movements across the lab. Its bones snapped and re-formed into a delicate, crystalline lattice. It chirped, but the chirp sounded like a human infant saying the word why .
