Cordelia uses the Pearl to drain Oceana’s energy and transfer it to a forgotten undersea kingdom called , where rejected sea creatures and banished mermaids live. She promises them strength, but instead turns them into emotionless guardians of the Trench.
Merliah discovers that the source of the disturbance is a hidden underwater rift called The Trench of Echoes . Inside lies the lost Pearl of Lumina , a magical gem that balances ocean energy. It has been stolen by a mysterious new mermaid named Cordelia , who was once the apprentice of the evil Eris (from the first film). Merliah, with help from her grandmother, Queen Calissa, and her surfer-turned-mermaid friend Kylie, must journey to Kelpstone. Along the way, she meets Finn , a gruff but kind-hearted sea turtle who once guarded the Pearl, and Luma , a shy bioluminescent jellyfish who can mimic voices—a key to getting past Cordelia’s traps.
