Because as the gate closed, Ichigo Kurosaki—soon to be powerless, soon to be ordinary—raised his hand and waved.

“Because in Soul Society, we believe a Shinigami’s power is never truly lost. It becomes part of those who witnessed it.” She met his eyes. “You’ve saved more people than any captain I know, Ichigo. That doesn’t disappear just because your blade does.”
