This is where I stopped playing. In v1.01, your character has a "radio." In v1.0, it’s just for mission briefings. Here, if you stand still for 20 seconds, the radio picks up static. But slowly, under the static, you hear a voice. It isn't English. It isn't a monster growl. It sounds like a human being trying to speak backwards while underwater. I ran a spectrogram analysis on my capture footage. It formed a waveform that looked suspiciously like a topographical map of the developer’s hometown. Coincidence? Probably. I’m not talking about a prototype. I’m talking about a point-one patch from 1987. Last week, at a dusty flea market in Ohio, I found a loose gray cartridge with a peeling sticker that simply read: Alien Quest v1.01 . But slowly, under the static, you hear a voice
